One of the biggest misconceptions about public relations is that great content comes from brainstorming sessions. While strategy meetings certainly have their place, we’ve found that the best ideas emerge when we’re simply spending time with our clients.
At Mother of Pearls, we believe it’s important to immerse ourselves in our clients’ businesses. That means visiting their offices, sitting in on meetings, working in shared spaces, and having conversations with employees. We want to understand not only what they do, but how they do it and why it matters. What we’ve learned over the years is that many people underestimate how interesting their work really is. What feels routine and ordinary to the people inside an organization can be fascinating to outsiders. That outside perspective is often where the best stories begin. For example, while spending time at the health department, we may learn about a recent rash of dog bites. To the team handling those reports, it’s a routine part of the job. To the rest of the community, it’s information they may have never encountered before. That often sparks a conversation about how we can educate residents and turn a common occurrence into valuable content. Our job isn’t to manufacture stories, but to uncover them. We do that by listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and remaining curious about the work our clients do. The reality is that every organization has stories worth telling. By spending time where our clients live and work, we gain a deeper understanding of their businesses, the people behind them, and the communities they serve. The more we learn about our clients’ world, the better we can tell their story. Courtesy: Madison Oliver
